Our story

Built from the inside of a financial crisis.

Debt-Free.world was not built by a bank, a consulting firm, or a financial expert. It was built by a woman who lost nearly everything — and couldn't find the help, guidance, or companion she needed when she was drowning in debt.

Vilma Paasikivi, Founder
"I didn't create Debt-Free.world as a financial expert. I created it because I lived through financial collapse myself — and came out the other side knowing exactly what was missing."

The full story

I am not a financial expert. I didn't study economics. I didn't work in banking. What I am is someone who built a life for herself and her three young children through her own work — and then watched nearly 45 000 € disappear through a business partner's betrayal, a construction scam, and a chain of consequences I didn't see coming.

The largest single blow wasn't a bad decision I made. It was trust that was abused. A partner I had worked with for about a year took what wasn't theirs to take. That changed everything overnight.

What followed was the kind of period that quietly breaks people. More debt than assets. That amount of shame. And a level of exhaustion — mental, financial, emotional — that I hadn't let myself acknowledge until I was already running on empty.

I want to be honest about that. I got tired. Not defeated — but genuinely, deeply tired.

Every service I found was either unaffordable, hopelessly generic, or built for people who already had their finances under control. Nobody spoke to me like a real person. Nobody asked what I was actually working toward. Nobody said: here is your exact situation, here are your real options, here is what you do today.

I spent months doing it myself — reading, calling, waiting, filling in forms that led nowhere. I got through it. But it took far longer than it should have.

"I spent years helping others navigate hard times. I never built a safety net for myself. When I finally needed help — I couldn't find it."

I need to tell you something about who I am — because I think it explains why I built what I built. For years, alongside raising my children and running my own work, I've organized community charity events — not because I had excess to spare, but because looking after the people around you has always felt like the only natural way to live. Do unto others. No conditions attached.

When my own financial world collapsed, I realized something uncomfortable: I had spent years helping others navigate hard times, and I had never once built a safety net for myself. I knew how to give — I hadn't learned how to ask.

That's the gap Debt-Free.world is built to close.

But here's what I learned that I didn't expect: the problem isn't just debt. The problem is that nobody asks the right question first. Not how much do you owe — but why do you want to get out. Because the answer to that question changes everything. It changes the plan. It changes the timeline. It changes what's actually worth doing tomorrow morning.

I don't bring you credentials. I bring you the lived experience of someone who went through the system that's supposed to help people in financial distress — and found it inadequate at every turn. Someone who understands that the path out of debt doesn't end at zero. It ends where you actually wanted to be when you started.

In 2025 I started building the tool I wish had existed. Not another article. Not a calculator with a phone number at the bottom. A real companion — one that takes your actual numbers, understands your actual situation, listens to what you're working toward, and gives you a real plan in your own language, without judgment. Something that feels like talking to someone who has actually been there.

Debt-Free.world launched in 2026. It's free. That was never up for discussion. Debt freedom should never depend on your ability to pay for help first. The people who need this most are the ones who can least afford to wait — and I built this for them, for us.

Mission & Vision
Mission
Financial freedom belongs to everyone.

Getting out of debt should never depend on your income, your country, or your ability to pay for help first. The people who need this most are the ones who can least afford to wait — so we built it for them, and we keep it free.

Vision
A debt crisis should be a chapter — not a life sentence.

We are building toward a world where honest help to escape debt is free and within reach of anyone, in any country — and where the same companion that meets you in your worst month stays with you all the way to financial independence. We do this together. ✦

What we stand for
01
Honesty over comfort
We tell you what your numbers actually mean — not what you want to hear. A plan built on false hope is no plan at all.
02
Free means free
The core service will always be free. No hidden costs. No credit card. No timer. Financial guidance should not be a luxury.
03
Local context matters
Debt law, support services, and creditor behaviour differ by country. Generic advice fails people. We build for your reality.
04
We do this together
This is not a transaction. This is a commitment. We are with you from the first step to the last payment.
05
Give the support you would want to receive
We give the kind of help we would want when we are the ones in crisis — honest, practical, without judgment, and without a price tag. That standard shapes every decision we make.

The bigger picture

We didn't build a debt app. We built something that stays with you. The same person who comes to us in crisis — overwhelmed, not knowing where to start — should be able to come back when they're ready to grow their income, build savings, or start a business. That's why Debt-Free.world is designed as an ecosystem, not a one-time tool.

We start with debt because that's where most people are when they find us. But this platform is built for the entire journey — from the worst month to the best decade.
